Stampy, every time sharpness is added to an item, it adds 2 damage. So if a stick has sharpness 3, it will do 7 damage, because a stick does as much damage as your hand as default (1 damage) so if it adds 1 sharpness, that's 3 damage. sharpness 2, 5 damage. It adds 2 damage every time. Sharpness 3, that's 7 damage. So the sharpness 3 stick is in fact better than the wooden axe, and the stone axe. (And by the way, a sharpness 2 stick does 5 damage, and a sharpness 1 stick does 3 damage)
